Asthma Treatment Alternative: There are countless options when it comes to asthma treatment alternatives. An effective treatment is one that provides relief from the condition (either immediate or long term). Some patients have a difficult time pinpointing the effective treatments amongst the ineffective treatments.

The best method for ensuring that a patient focuses on effective treatment options rather than options that are simply a waste of time is to access the experience and knowledge of an allergist. They can discuss the possibilities with the patient and outline the basics of the treatment; the positives and negatives. Patients should feel free to ask for advice from their allergist; they hold extensive training in all asthma and allergy related conditions and disorders.

Most undergo traditional treatment in combination with asthma treatment alternatives. Popular asthma treatment alternatives fall into a wide range of services and actions from sublingual serums to breathing exercises. The following alternatives may or may not be a viable alternative for an individual suffering from asthma. Know the options, but discuss them with a medical professional prior to instituting any new treatments.

Treatment: Asthma treatment alternatives that may be effective include:

1. Breathing techniques: Breathing exercises are sometimes very effective in reducing the severity of symptoms brought on by asthma. They have also been known to reduce the need for pharmaceutical medication. Some breathing exercises that have been known to be effective include: buteyko breathing technique, yoga breathing, and the papworth method.

2. Diet: Making changes to the diet can aid some asthmatic sufferers in alleviating their condition. Fruits and vegetables are said to increase the health of general lung function as well as boosting the immune system. Some have successfully alleviating their asthmatic symptoms through the increase of Omega-3 fatty acids (found in fish and flaxseed, etc.) Omega-3 fatty acids are called healthy oils and are said to reduce inflammation that can exacerbate asthma symptoms.

Foods to avoid in order to alleviate asthma issues include those high in saturated fats like butter and red meat. Also to be avoided are: food colorings, additives and preservatives, milk products, salty items, artificial sweeteners, etc. They tend to increase the frequency as well as the severity of episodes.

3. Exercise: Regular, prolonged exercise strengthens the lungs. And the stronger an individual’s lungs are the less likely they are to suffer an asthma attack. They don’t have to work as hard to breathe. Individuals who live in cold weather should consider that cold weather can sometimes trigger symptoms. And individuals who haven’t exercised in a while should consider that an abrupt implementation of an exercise regimen should first be discussed with a doctor.

4. Herbal remedies: Many individuals are embracing the highly discussed benefits of herbal remedies. Many medical professionals may not see a big benefit through herbal remedies, but they don’t see any harm in it either. Many have been in use for thousands of years. Some herbs that have shown promising results include: dried ivy, butterbur, ginkgo extract, tylophora indica, french maritime pine bark extract, Boswellia serrata, choline, etc.

Summary: One of the most effective asthma treatment alternatives are sublingual immunotherapy programs. They are based around the introduction of small doses or extracts of otherwise harmless allergens. They are placed under the tongue as oral drops and the dose is gradually increased stimulating a natural build up of immunity to the allergen in the individual at hand.

Angioedema Cures: There are several categories used to define angioedema cures. These categories are easily identified by the type of angioedema they are intended to treat. The common types are: hereditary angioedema, drug induced angioedema, angioedema, and acquired angioedema.

Treatment: Treatment varies depending upon different types of angioedema. Different methods are required. Various cases of angioedema have different causes. This means they must be handled differently. Proper diagnosis is necessary for effective treatment.

When attempting to treat allergic angioedema the allergen should be identified so it can be avoided. Antihistamines and steroid therapy should be used immediately to alleviate the swelling and pain. If an individual is not able to identify the allergen causing the condition they should consult an allergist to determine the allergen.

Drug Induced Angioedema requires an immediate discontinuation of the drug that caused the condition. It also requires possible treatment with additional drugs in order to alleviate symptoms. In some instances drug induced conditions can be severe and quick to present. This makes fast diagnosis and efficient treatment vital.

Hereditary angioedema requires that the responsible stimuli be identified. Drug therapy is also an effective treatment. But drug therapy should be closely monitored.

Acquired angioedema requires proper drug therapy treatment. It is the most effective method of treatment. It does require close monitoring to ensure that the drug treatment is effective as well as safe. There is the possibility of negative effects from the introduction of new medications.

Summary: Patients undergoing Angioedema Treatment should be monitored closely as drug treatments can have adverse effects; some even having the possibility to exacerbate the symptoms.

Working with an experienced allergist will aid individuals in identifying or eliminating allergy based causes for the condition. Allergists undergo vigorous training resulting in extensive expertise in allergies, asthma and other related conditions. Allergists can work in combination with a family practitioner or other medical professional to determine the best treatment program.

A chronic ear infection can occur in people of any age. Youth are the most susceptible, as are swimmers. A chronic ear infection will last in the patient for at least 12 weeks without healing. The infection could occur in any of the three parts of the ear – inner ear (labrynthitis), middle ear (otis media), or outer ear (otis externa). The most common type of chronic ear infection occurs within the middle ear. Symptoms of an ear infection are intense pain and pressure in the infected part of the ear.

Pain within the ear is often caused by a viral or bacterial infection. They can also be caused by a buildup of fluid. Common colds, living at a high altitude level, other climate qualities, and swimming are all typical causes of ear infections.

Wax build up is another cause of earaches, but this is not coined an infection. A doctor can easily flush the excess wax from the ear.

Affects of chronic ear infections are a loss of hearing, issues of speech development, lack of balance, paralysis in the face, and swelling of the brain that surrounds the ear. Seek medical attention immediately, if dizziness, fever, or swelling occurs.

Depending on the level of severity, the doctor will prescribe an oral decongestant or nasal spray. Antibiotics are another option, but are not prescribed for a lengthy period of time. Surgery may take place if tubes need to be inserted into the ear. Tubes will help drain any continuous backup of fluids.

Pain will vary from individual to individual, as will symptoms. Some other ear infection symptoms are redness of the ear, blood in the ear, or a pus-like drainage. The doctor will administer tests and assess sinus passages to seek blockages or buildup of fluids.

If the infection has developed a cyst, or it has spread to the mastoid bone of the middle ear, surgery can be expected and necessary.

Brief summary: Chronic ear infections are often found in children, but can occur in people of any age. The infection may cause a loss of hearing or further damage that is permanent to the ear. In severe chronic ear infections, a cyst may develop or there may be swelling of the brain around the ear. The common treatment for chronic ear infections is oral antibiotics, eardrops, or a nasal decongestant. If the case of the infection is extreme, surgery to insert tubes may take place. Surgery will also be conducted to remove the cyst or address the swelling of the brain. Children that cannot yet speak may tug on their ear to indicate pain. Headaches may occur and balance may be affected.

Sinusitis Treatments: Sinusitis treatments include both homeopathic therapies and traditional medicine. The goals of treatment are to: diminish inflammation and improve drainage in the nasal passages, lessen mucus in the nose and lungs, reduce sinus pain and pressure, and resolve any infection that may be present so damage to sinus tissues does not occur.

Drinking water, teas, fruit juices and other beverages keeps the body hydrated and supports the cleansing of the nasal passages. Breathing in steam or hot water vapor (while taking a shower or sitting over a bowl of hot water) several times a day also helps to alleviate symptoms. Menthol and various menthol preparations can also be added to humidifiers and other hot water sources to further loosen mucus and contribute to an overall better breathing experience.

Neti-pots are a traditional Indian remedy to flush sinuses and reduce swelling under the eyes. A saline solution is used to wash out the sinuses and menthol and other additives may be used depending on the allergy and the condition. Musinex is specifically designed to loosen mucous and other doctor prescribed treatments may help clear out a build up of mucous.

To reduce swelling and provide pain relief, apply a warm compress around the nose, cheeks and eyes. The head should be elevated when resting. Pain medications such as ibuprofen (Advil and Motrin), aspirin and naproxen (Alleve) can also reduce pain and inflammation. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) will help with pain management, but it will not reduce swelling.

Treatment of infants and small children is more difficult, as children under the age of 4 should not be given any medication without the consent of their doctors. However, topical creams infused with rosemary, lavender, and eucalyptus can be used throughout the day and at night to assist with breathing and settle nerves. Eucalyptus oil can be added to a steamy bath to help open nasal passageways.

If a bacterial infection is present, antibiotics may be prescribed. These medications can vary in length of treatment with some being as short as three days and others lasting as long as several weeks or more. In addition decongestants (which reduce swelling of nasal mucous membranes), analgesics (pain relievers), mucolytics (which thin mucus), corticosteroids (which reduce inflammation) or inhaled antibiotics may also be given. These medications will not work if a virus or fungus causes the infection.

Home treatment techniques are usually the only care needed to aid recovery and ease symptoms of sinusitis. Most people diagnosed with sinusitis get better without antibiotics. However, if symptoms are severe and persist for more than a few days, talk to your doctor.

If symptoms are last for an extended period of time, talk to your doctor

Chronic sinusitis occurs when there is inflammation of the paranasal sinuses. This condition is chronic when the infection lasts longer than eight weeks in duration. Chronic sinusitis can be the result of several factors – colds, allergies, infections, or autoimmune deficiencies.

Other causes of chronic sinusitis are allergies or autoimmune deficiencies. As the passages of the nasal become infected, they begin to swell and create a problem when mucous tries to properly drain. It becomes difficult to breathe, and headaches, a sore throat, earaches, or exhaustion may occur. Other symptoms include a postnasal drip or mucous draining in the throat.

When the sinuses and the nasal passage don’t properly drain, then in addition to mucous, nasal polyps may form. In extreme cases, there may also be face swelling. Those that have a deviated septum may have chronic sinusitis more than those that don’t.

People that have a weak immune system may be more likely to have chronic sinusitis. People that suffer often from hay fever or respiratory tract infections may also be more susceptible.

Chronic sinusitis can expand into meningitis, if it is not treated properly. There have been cases that blindness and blood clots have been a result. These can occur if not evaluated quickly by a doctor.

Doctors may suggest that the patient take a full exam in order to properly treat chronic sinusitis. The doctor may do a visual inspection or conduct a nasal endoscopy, which consists of a thin tube that has a camera on its end sent into the nasal passage. The endoscopy will determine levels of swelling, the source of the infection, and any nasal polyps that have formed. A CT scan or an MRI may also be suggested. A mucous culture may be taken in a visual inspection.

After the infection has been diagnosed, the doctor will prescribe the appropriate remedy. Nasal sprays are the lease invasive and target the area directly. Chronic sinusitis caused by a bacterial infection may be prescribed and antibiotic. A remedy with a high success rate is the prescription of a corticosteroid. If the diagnosis is one of an extreme, then surgery will be recommended to remove the polyps or fix the deviated septum.

Brief summary: In chronic sinusitis, sinuses are often inflamed or swollen for a two month time frame. The common symptoms are issues with breathing, a sore throat, swollen sinuses, postnasal drip, and mucous discharge through coughing. Triggers for chronic sinusitis are a weak immune system, hay fever, or a respiratory tract infection, and treatments include nasal spray, antibiotics, or corticosteroids. In serious cases, surgery may take place.

Asthmatic Bronchitis: Asthmatic bronchitis is a hybrid condition combining two common conditions: asthma and bronchitis (chronic). The common symptoms may or may not include chest pain or discomfort, shortness of breath, fever, fatigue, wheezing, weakness, etc. Other symptoms that are fairly common include: blue colored lips, swelling in the ankles, legs and feet and frequent respiratory problems.

This condition typically has an underlying asthmatic problem. The asthmatic bronchitis diagnosis is given when asthma has escalated to a point of chronic breathing difficulty. The air flow is blocked substantially and anti-asthmatic therapy is no longer effective in reducing breathing difficulty.

It is often difficult to clinically differentiate between asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema. All affect the bronchial tree and result in wheezing, shortness of breath and coughing. Some individuals who are asthmatic go on to develop asthmatic bronchitis and others do not. Why some develop the additional condition and others don’t is unclear.

Treatment: Appropriate asthmatic bronchitis requires no smoking, intake plenty of fluids, plenty of rest, aspirin (not appropriate treatment for children), and steam (accessible through a variety of humidifiers). For further improvement an inhaler can be prescribed to open the airways/reduce wheezing. Antibiotics are sometimes prescribed to alleviate any secondary bacterial infections.

There are several complications common to the condition that can require eventual hospitalization for full recovery.

Summary: Within 7 to 10 days most cases of asthmatic bronchitis should clear up. If they do not there could be an underlying lung disorder. One lingering symptom that is normal is a dry, hacking cough. This can last for months after general improvement. Sinusitis, pneumonia or acute bronchitis are all common complications that can occur. Consulting an allergist will allow patients to get detailed explanations regarding the cause of their airway obstruction as well as the connection between the bronchitis and the asthma.

Consult a medical professional or allergist in order to get the most thorough, accurate diagnosis. Emphysema must either be identified and diagnosed or ruled out. Allergen and triggers must be identified. An experienced allergist will be able to provide the most thorough testing.

Individuals should feel comfortable asking for details regarding their medications as well as possible complications. An experienced professional can advise patients regarding how to avoid or minimize the chance of complications related to asthmatic bronchitis or asthmatic bronchitis treatment.

So when a patient is looking for a successful asthma alternative they are looking, first and foremost, for an effective treatment that will reduce or eliminate their negative symptoms either immediately (especially in life threatening situations) or for the long term. The most obvious response to asthmatic allergy problems is to avoid the allergens that are causing or exacerbating the issue. But this isn’t always a viable option.

In many instances actively seeking relief from the effect of allergens is the appropriate measure. Approaching an allergist is often a good idea. Allergists are physicians specializing in the management and treatment of allergies, asthma and the other allergic diseases.

Allergists in the US hold certification by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI). This means they have completed an accredited educational program successfully followed by a required evaluation process. This process includes a secure exam during which proper knowledge, skills and experience must be demonstrated as related specifically to patient allergy and immunology care.

Every certified allergist in the United States has at least 9 years of training before practicing. First they complete medical school. They take their medical degree with them as they continue on to specialize by completing 3 years of training in one of two areas: internal medicine or pediatrics. Next they pass both the American Board of Pediatrics’ exam and the American Board of Internal Medicine’s exam.

At this point the next step is to complete a sub-specialty. To complete a sub-specialty an individual must complete a 2 year fellowship in an allergy-immunology related program.

Treatment: A successful Asthma Alternative treatment depends upon the allergen and the specific situation of the patient, but viable options include: Pharmacotherapy and Immunotherapy.

Treatment and management of asthma allergies often starts with avoidance of the allergen at hand. People who respond negatively to interaction with cats for instance…should avoid cats. But when thinking about avoidance as treatment brings to mind those with airborne allergies like pollen, etc. These individuals have a much harder time successfully avoiding their allergens and therefore may see an increased problem with asthmatic allergic responses.

Summary: Pharmacotherapy involves combinations of drugs that can alleviate severe symptoms immediately. This type of treatment isn’t often used effectively as treatment for chronic or long term symptoms. Immunotherapy involves a gradual vaccination of the individual with progressively larger doses of the allergen in question. It can reduce and/or eliminate the hypersensitivity.

Asthmatic Bronchitis: The combination of both asthma and bronchitis into one condition is referred to as asthmatic bronchitis. Asthmatic bronchitis leaves patients suffering from shortness of breath, fever, fatigue, chest pain, swelling in the legs, feet and ankles, blue colored lips, etc.

Chronic bronchitis, emphysema and asthma have similar symptoms. This makes them easily confused during the diagnosis process. All three have a negative effect on the bronchial tree with frequent respiratory issues. All three leave individuals coughing and wheezing and feeling short of breath. Asthma conditions can escalate into asthmatic bronchitis but no one has been able to identify exactly why this sometimes occurs.

Several common complications of asthmatic bronchitis can require hospitalization.

Summary: Symptoms should go away in many cases within 7 to 10 days unless there is an underlying lung disorder. A dry, hacking cough can linger after general improvement for months. Common complications include: sinusitis, pneumonia or acute bronchitis. Consulting a medical professional regarding your condition will allow an individual to get specific information regarding the nature or primary cause of the airway obstruction and the relationship between the asthma and bronchitis.

A medical professional will also determine whether or not emphysema is present. Further testing may be required and triggers will need to be identified. Consulting an experienced allergist an individual will be able to obtain information on minimizing their susceptibility.

Individuals should feel comfortable asking for details regarding their medications as well as possible complications. An experienced professional can advise patients regarding how to avoid or minimize the chance of complications related to asthmatic bronchitis or asthmatic bronchitis treatment.

What is Conjunctivitis? Otherwise known as pink eye, conjunctivitis is what occurs when the eyelid membrane, the conjunctiva, becomes inflamed. The eyelid membrane is transparent, and when it is irritated, becomes pink or red.

Both a bacterial or a viral inflammation may occur to cause the irritation. Allergies are another common cause of conjunctivitis. The common symptoms of pink eye are a discharge or crustiness of the eye, which causes difficulty when trying to open. The overall will feel irritated, as though there was piece of dirt in it. Tearing and itchiness are also common symptoms.

Pink eye is extremely contagious, so individuals that believe they have it need to see a doctor as soon as possible. Hands should be washed frequently to avoid spreading the disease. Conjunctivitis has the potential to remain contagious for up to a two week period.

If a baby has pink eye, it is probably the result of a blocked tear duct. If the case is that of an adult, it could have been caused by bacteria that entered the eye via hand or other methods. Pink eye can also be the result of a virus.

Pink eye will often be extremely uncomfortable and itchy. Placing a warm compress over the eye may relieve itchiness. If the condition is viral, then the conjunctivitis will have to run its full course before healing. The condition may spread into both eyes, but it should be fully clear by two weeks.

The treatment for bacterial conjunctivitis is often antibiotic eye drops. They will often clear up the condition within two or three days. Ointment may also be prescribed, typically for youth, but does have a blurry vision side effect. The blurriness could last for up to 20 minutes, but will disappear after that. Use a warm compress for itchiness.

If the pink eye is the result of an allergic reaction, a cold compress is suggested to use for comfort. A doctor may prescribe eye drops, allergy meds, or an antihistamine. If contact lenses have been exposed to the condition, then they should be promptly disposed of or cleansed thoroughly. Contacts should be removed from the eyes and not be worn until the symptoms of pink eye have cleared.

Summary: When the transparent membrane of the eye is infected, it is called pink eye or conjunctivitis. The color of the lid will be red or pink. This condition could be the result of a viral infection, a bacterial infection, or allergies. When a baby has a clogged tear duct, he/she may get pink eye. A bacterial infection may be treated with drops. A viral infection will have to run its course. Use a warm compress to relieve itch in both cases. If pink eye is inflicted by allergies, then drops or an allergy medication may be prescribed to ease symptoms. If this is the case, then a cold compress to relieve itch is recommended. Treatment should cause the symptoms to clear within a few days.

Allergy Treatment Alternatives: Countless therapies (medicinal and naturopathic) exist in the treatment of allergies. However, the treatment that works the best is avoidance and elimination of the allergens.

Allergy Treatment Alternatives: Countless therapies (medicinal and naturopathic) exist in the treatment of allergies. However, the treatment that works the best is avoidance and elimination of the allergens.

Allergies can be treated with both over the counter drugs and prescription drugs. Antihistamines can be found in any pharmacy or grocery store. These are called over the counter (OTC) drugs and anyone may purchase them without a prescription from a doctor. When allergies can’t be relived through OTC drugs, a doctor should be consulted for prescription drugs. While drugs may help relieve sneezing, red eyes and stuffy head and noses associated with allergies, there may be side effects, so beware of what is going on in your body.

Combination medicines and corticosteroids (lotions and sprays) help to avert and reduce swelling. Anticholinergic nasal sprays diminish glandular secretions in the nose and lessen nasal mucus. Eye drops ease redness, inflammation, and provide additional tearing in the eyes. Allergy shots are often taken in an effort to steadily improve a person’s ability to manage the allergic reaction.

Because shots can be painful and inconvenient, sublingual immunotherapy is a newer method of therapy that provides an allergen solution placed under the tongue. As with shots, the course of treatment reduces sensitivity to allergens. The drops are also painless and convenient, which is important in allergy management of children.

Prescription treatments, however, are often expensive and frequently produce unwanted side effects (drowsiness and nasal irritation). Even with positive safety profiles, many people prefer home therapies, which are drug free. While homeopathic remedies can be simple lifestyle changes (altering diet, keeping windows closed when in the car and at home, limiting time outdoors during allergy season, etc.) others treat the symptoms and provide the same kind of allergy relief as traditional western medicines.

Flushing the nasal passages can be done easily with a Neti pot (a small, ceramic pots that look like Arabian lamps) filled with tap water or salt water or a simple homemade nasal spray. These solutions can also be used safely in both children and adults. Naturally occurring bioflavinoid plant compounds (such as Quercetin), which have been shown to stabilize mast cells and keep them from producing a histamine effect, are commonly ingested in apples, citrus fruits, onions, tomatoes, broccoli, and wine.

Daily dosed of bee pollen or honey have also proven to alleviate allergy symptoms. Bee pollen is rich in vitamins and antioxidants. It can also be used as a slave. Raw honey contains all of the pollen, dust, and molds that cause 90% of all allergies. By ingesting raw honey on a daily basis allergy sufferers can build up immunity to elements that are causing their problems.

Just as prescription drugs and OTC drugs have side effects, so too can natural remedies. Those who are at risk for bee stings may also react negatively to bee pollen, potentially causing anaphylactic shock. There is also a level of bacteria in honey that can cause problems in babies and young kids. In order to properly diagnose what is causing allergies and thus learn how to avoid them, please consult a doctor.
